Eventful Concord Weekend Leads To Strong Finish For Seuss
18-Year-Old and His Team Leaves North Carolina With 11th-Place Run
Andy Seuss will be the first to admit that he wasn’t quite sure what to expect when he rolled into Concord Motorsport Park on Thursday for the North-South Shootout at the high-speed, half-mile track
Seuss, a regular with the True Value Modified Series, hadn’t raced with ultra-talented drivers of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour or Southern Modified Tour teams very much, so he wasn’t too sure how his # 70 One Stop Toy Shop / Rockingham Boat ride would compare.

Well, following Seuss’ 11th-place finish in the 100-lap feature on Saturday night, he was more than convinced.

“We were faster than Teddy Christopher and Jimmy Blewett and some of the other good Tour guys,” said Seuss.  “I was right on Eric Beers’ bumper at the end.  That shows that our series has plenty of good, competitive guys.  Where we struggled is that we

don’t have any experience on any of the big tracks.  Our series only runs on 1/3- and ¼-mile tracks that have nowhere near the speed that tracks like here at Concord.  That kind of threw us a curveball on our setup.  We are really, really good on the short tracks, but we had to work hard to get a hold of this place.  We don’t know how to time trial very well either.  Those Tour guys had the upper hand for sure but we showed that we can run right with them.”

It took a couple of heat races and last chance races for Seuss to make it into the show, but once he was locked into his 32nd-place starting spot for the feature, he knew things were looking up.
“The car was flawless in the race.  We got involved in a wreck early (a spin on lap 29) and that put us in a position to short pit and it really worked out well for us.

“We restarted 12th after some guys pitted and worked our way all the way up to fourth for a while.  Then the car started to slide a little bit.  Those boys that pitted after us were running real hard, so we faded back to 11th at the end, but for not knowing if we’d even be in the show, it’s great.

“We knew we had a fast car earlier so that was the most frustrating part about maybe not even being in the show.  We got a chance to prove that we belonged in the race and we did a great job.”
