ANDY SEUSS KNOCKS SOUTHERN MONKEY OFF OF HIS BACK
Bad Luck For Seuss in the WSMT is Finally Over for Youngster at Motor Mile
Andy Seuss’ memories of Motor Mile Speedway (VA) were not so fond in the spring. He struggled all day with a bad tire and brought home his #70 Rockingham Boat Modified machine home to a 14th place finish. But the young New Hampshire driver wasn’t going to let that get him down, on Saturday night, he took the opportunity to turn that around and make some new memories.
“Finally we got the bad luck monkey off of our backs on the Southern Modified Tour,” grinned Seuss after the race. “We were awesome all day and we were able to come home fourth.
“We have been fighting some bad luck and other things. But this time the car ran flawless all day long. We weren’t the fastest in practice but we knew what we had to set up for and the guys did an awesome job putting a great car under me. It was fast when it counted.”
Speaking of fast, Seuss’ car was very fast. He posted the second fastest time in qualifying, only 7/1000ths off of the pole sitter Burt Myers.
To help correct the handling issues caused by the right-rear tire, Seuss brought the #70 machine to the attention of his crew several times throughout the event to do anything and everything they could to get the car going the way it was in practice despite not being able to change tires per NASCAR’s rulebook. Seuss was pleased with the car in the hour-long practice session, but the race was another story.
Bad luck was still a part of the draw though, as the top-10 cars were part of the inversion and Seuss redrew a 10. It didn’t take him too long to begin working his way through the field though.
“From what I hear, I didn’t have anything for LW,” added Seuss. “He has this place figured out pretty good. Maybe if I had just used it up early and tried to get by the #81 (Brian Pack) and kept the 42 (Brandon Ward) behind me and then tried to fight them off, I might have made out a little bit better than fourth.
“We had a good run with Tim Brown there at the end and we raced pretty hard for the last third of the race and never touched. My hat is off to him. He is a great competitor. I am just having a lot of fun running down here. I like this place now. It’s a top-notch facility, it is a lot fun and I really like coming here. It is very nice, southern hospitality is very alive.”
