When the True Value Modified Racing Series went to Waterford
Speedbowl (CT) for the first time, Andy Seuss and his #70
Rockingham Boat team had high hopes. The 19-year-old has proven
to be up to all kinds of new challenges, as shown by his championship
at Florida Speedweeks in February, and going to a track that is known
for a history of great Modified competition was a welcome trip for
Seuss.
Things got even better for Seuss when he won his heat race and
earned the outside pole for the 100-lap feature. However, the feature
itself turned sour quickly on lap one when Seuss tangled with second
row starters Tony Ricci and Les Hinckley.
“When I got to the frontstretch, the car whipped around,” said Seuss.
“I don’t really know what happened other than it was hard racing with
two other very good racers who were racing with me for the same spot.
What happened was a shame. I hate it for Tony Ricci and Les
Hinckley. Tony and I got together and the #06 [Hinckley] had nowhere
to go. Tony is a good, hard racer and he has always been a class act
to us. I just hate that this happened.”
The damage to the #70 Modified was extensive.
“It snapped the rear end in half and twisted the clip like a pretzel,” said Seuss.
Seuss was credited with a finish of 24th. He hopes for better results this Saturday night, June 24th, as the True Value Modifieds head to Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire.
“We’re going to Star next and we’re excited about that. It’s one of our home tracks and it will be a great place for us to get our season back on track.”
