Seuss Goes into Spin Cycle After Leading Late at Star
#70 Mod Goes Around After Contact With Another Competitor
This past weekend, the Hampstead, New Hampshire teen was hoping to an accomplishment a little closer to home to that. He was at Star Speedway gunning for his second TVMRS victory of the season.
Up until lap 76, that looked very likely to happen for Seuss and his Rockingham Boat/Manchester Urology Associates team. Seuss led the race on two different occasions and was up front with only 24 laps to go when Les Hinckley got underneath the Seuss #70 Modified. Hinckley slid up into Seuss while making a pass for the lead and the two locked together and spun.
“The #06 caught up to me and I was looking forward to having a good race with him,” said Seuss. “We’ve raced clean in the past and I expected the same thing this time. The only place that he was closing on me was in turn three, so I thought he would make a move there. I was surprised at how hard he drove it into the corner though. He just didn’t seem to turn in the middle of the corner and he climbed right up on my nerf bar.
“My spotter had told me that he was coming on the inside and I gave him a lane. Next time, if I hear that Les Hinckley is coming, I’ll need to give him a lane and a half or two I guess.”
Seuss came back from the spin to finish ninth.
Now, Seuss has Seekonk on his mind. The True Value Modifieds head there this Saturday night and Seuss has a history of podium finishes at the track, including a win in last year’s DAV Memorial. So the #70 team will fix there car and try again Saturday night.
“The rear end it bent and the tire is flat,” said Seuss looking at his wounded car after Star. “We will take it home and work on it for Seekonk and hopefully do better next week. I love going to Seekonk and can’t wait to race there this week.”
So far in 2006, Andy Seuss’ biggest racing memory was made down south at New Smyrna Speedway, where he won the Florida Speedweeks Modified championship.
