Last Minute Decision Nets Andy Seuss Top-Five at Greenville
Young Driver Backs Up NASCAR Southern Mod Tour Victory With Another Solid Finish
In a span of less than a week, Andy Seuss netted himself a victory and a top-five finish on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour at two of the south’s most famous tracks. The victory came for him last Sunday at Music City Motorplex (TN) with his latest strong result, a fourth place finish, coming on Saturday night at Greenville-Pickens Speedway (SC).
While Seuss’ trip to Nashville was a planned one, his trip down south to Greenville was a last minute one. After scoring a their victory on Sunday, the Rockingham Boat team didn’t decide until Thursday that they were going to make another trip to race down south. And it’s a good thing that he did as he added a fourth place finish to his 2007 stats.
“It was a pretty good race for us,” said Seuss. “We were pretty frustrated during qualifying and started 16th. But, the race worked out well for us. Any time you can bring home a top-five it is good, especially with the struggles we were having in practice and qualifying.
“The car was really good on the long runs, I would have loved to have seen the whole thing go green but that didn’t happen. A couple of cautions came late in the race, I let a couple of cars slip by but overall we were very happy. We will just build on it.”
The cautions that occurred late in the race may have been the very thing that kept Seuss from getting up to and around eventual race winner Junior Miller.
“The way that Junior checked out at the end, he would have been tough to beat. But I would have loved to have found out if we could have caught him. I think that we would have been able to get by the guys in front of us, if we would have just had a few more green laps. We were really catching them.
“Even if it had only gone 15 more laps of green, we were starting to reel them in. I would have loved to have put on a race with Junior. I have always enjoyed racing with him. We will just have to come back and try and get them next time.”
While any top-five finish in a modified is impressive, what makes this one even more so is that this top-five finish came without the help of the majority of the No. 70 Manchester Urology / Rockingham Boat team.
“This is a pretty makeshift crew we had here,” added Seuss. “We miss my family and crew that are all at home. My spotter and three awesome mechanics are all back home in New Hampshire huddled around a computer watching the live updates on Mod Series Scene. It’s too bad they couldn’t make it, but it was a last minute thing and all the guys down here have been great. Southern hospitality has been at work. These Southern Mod guys have been great; they will do anything to help you out. It’s always fun to come race down here.”
