Seuss and Team Earn a Top 10 Finish at Big NHIS Race
Underdog Shows Well Against New Faces and a Familar Friend
Andy Seuss and his #70 Modified team is made up of family and close friends.  They aren’t well-funded and they field a 10-year old Troyer chassis instead of the latest and greatest in new car technology.  But they continue to take on the giants of Modifieds with positive results.  In the past, that has meant a Florida Speedweeks championship and a victory at Nashville on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.  This past weekend, it meant a top 10 finish in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition at New Hampshire International Speedway.  Seuss finished eighth in his home state event.

“An eighth place finish is like a win to us,” said Seuss.  “This is a place that we have come to and watched a lot and drooled over a lot between the Modifieds and the stands. We really wanted to run well and we did run well. Hopefully we can come back.”

The NHIS race was the first time that the 20-year-old racer got to experience drafting in the lead pack of a speedway Modified event.  He enjoyed the experience, but wished for a little bit more help from his fellow competitors.

“I could have used more drafting towards the end of the race that was for sure.  I definitely I learned a ton today. It is a whole other animal than the short tracks that we

run on usually. But the car was awesome in the draft and it was really good by itself too, so when those guys raced ahead of me we were running to catch some of them.

“I was bump drafting and working with Bobby (Grigas) for about three or four laps. Then we wanted to see if we were faster. When I got out front and pulled away from him, I just assumed that I was probably out there by myself. I just pulled away from him. That was probably the problem. We were faster then some people and we were not necessarily catching the front of the pack. So I figured that with me in front and him (Grigas) behind we would be able to pull away but it never happened.”

Grigas and Seuss raced against each other for a full season in True Value Modified Racing Series, so going wheel-to-wheel with each other wasn’t anything new.

“I would have loved to mix it up to go to the lead with him. Obviously he has proved himself on the Tour. He has great equipment and it is an honor just to race next to him with the caliber team that they are. We are more a family team and there is a little bit of rivalry there coming from the True Value Series but I have had a lot of fun racing with him and we look forward to it in the future.”

Seuss’ next race will be a continuation of the rain-delayed TVMRS event at Thompson International Speedway on Sunday, September 23rd.  Seuss led the race before it was stopped by rain and will resume the top spot when it goes green on Sunday afternoon.
