Andy Seuss One Spot Short of Ace Speedway Victory
Second-Place Finish All But Locks Seuss into Second Place in WSMT Points

Andy Seuss and the Riggs Racing #47 Advance Auto Parts Modified team headed to Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, North Carolina, for the latest stop on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.  After starting fourth, Seuss drove up to finish second, maintaining second in the season points standings with just one race remaining on the schedule.

“Ace is a really tough place to pass,” said Seuss.  “You are kind of at the mercy of the draw.  When you get two cars matched like mine and George’s were (George Brunnhoelzl, III, the race winner), it really depends on where you start.  Once I got to second, I could inch my way up to him and got close, but never enough to get up next to him.  Hopefully it was an exciting show for the fans because I tried to do some diving on the apron, but just couldn’t make the pass without wrecking him, and we do not race that way.”

With one race left in the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedule, Seuss is pretty well locked into the second position in the standings with virtually no chance of catching points leader Brunnhoelzl.  So, the goal for Seuss is total race domination like the last time the series raced at Caraway Speedway (NC).

“We are pretty confident going into the final race at Caraway with what we learned the last time we were there,” explained Seuss.  “We do not have a shot at the championship as long as he (Brunnhoelzl) starts, so congratulations to him and his team.  They are a class act.  I am disappointed that we came up short of winning the championship, but we will give it hell for the race and for next year.”

Seuss completed his weekend by racing the #70 Stuart’s Auto/Rockingham Boat Modified two days later in the True Value Modified Racing Series at Twin State Speedway (NH), finishing 12th.

Seuss' team wanted to finish out the weekend with a little bit of extra racing, but would not be able to get their NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour entry, which was heavily damaged in a wreck at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last month, ready to head to Stafford Motor Speedway's Fall Final.  So instead they brought out their car with a steel-headed engine and entered the Twin State event.  However, things did not go according to plan.

"It was an ugly day," said Seuss.  "It was my first time at the track.  That is one weird place.  It took me awhile to figure it out, but we made progress in practice.  I won my heat race, which was good.  But we got into a wreck early on and that put us behind the eight ball."

The final race of the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will take place on Saturday, October 10th, at Caraway Speedway (NC).
