Runner-Up Finish Results From Fierce Battle for the Lead
Andy Seuss let the race come to him when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour visited Caraway Speedway (NC) on Saturday night. The driver of the #47 Advance Auto Parts Modified for Riggs Racing used patience to work his way into a three-way battle for the victory in the closing laps of the race.
Seuss joined eventual race winner Ted Christopher and SMT point leader George Brunnhoelzl, III in that dogfight. His hard work would pay off with a strong second-place finish.
“We were a little free to begin with in the first part of the race,” said Seuss. “So I backed off a little bit and saved me car. The race came to us later on. Those two guys were running really hard early and I got right up there with them later. It was going to be a really good three-way race until George got loose racing with Ted. After that, I went after Ted, but I just didn't have enough to get under him.”
Even though he was strong enough to finish second, Seuss thinks that his car could have been even better.
“There is a new tire this year and there's a learning curve with it. We've done well at tracks where we have struggled before and we've struggled

a little bit at places like this where we've done well in the past. I'm definitely not complaining because we had a really good car. But as good as my team is, I think that we can make it even better here.”
Seuss' next race will be at one of the places where he struggled in 2008. But that isn't a prediction for results this time around. After all, Seuss had “struggled” at South Boston in 2008 and won there just a few weeks ago.
“Lanier is a lot like South Boston,” said Seuss. “Our basic set-up should work well there, so I'm really looking forward to this race.”
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race at Lanier is scheduled for Saturday, April 18th.
