Andy Seuss headed to Caraway Speedway (NC) on Saturday night with the runner-up spot in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour (NWSMT) points locked down. He could neither mathematically advance nor fall a position in the standings, so his sixth-place finish didn’t hinder him in the final standings.
“The car wasn’t what we wanted to have tonight,” explained Seuss. “We had a winning car last week, and this week I think we just had a bad tire. It was as hard as a rock when we came in and not worn out at all. The thing got loose, so we came in and tightened it up and it felt like the chassis got tighter, but I couldn’t pinch it at all because it would get loose. It is unfortunate because these guys did a great job and they deserve another win. It just wasn’t meant to be. Fortunately we weren’t in a position in points to move up or down so it didn’t affect our season overall. We had a great season. We will move on and look forward to next year.”
On Sunday, Seuss made his way to Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire, for the True Value Modified race, where a wreck relegated him to a 23rd-place finish. Despite his disappointing weekend, with the conclusion of the 2009 NWSMT season at hand, Seuss and his team are looking forward to building upon the successes they’ve had this year and taking the crown in 2010.
“It was by far my most successful year ever,” said Seuss. “I’ve never won a NASCAR Championship, so why should I expect to? It’s my best finish, my most wins, and winning down here and winning up north with our car was great. We’re looking forward to everything about next year and building on it. It’s going to be tough to beat this season, finishing second in points and lots of wins. It’s been a great year.”
