The busy weekend got especially sweeter though when Seuss won the South Boston race with his #47 Advance Auto Parts / Q Racing Oil Modified fielded by Riggs Racing. Circumstances kept his family-owned #70 Rockingham Boat /Stuart's Automotive Modified limited to a finish of 17th at Thompson, but all in all, it was a great weekend for the young New Hampshire racer.
“Any weekend when you can race twice is already a great weekend, but to get back in victory lane with Riggs Racing made it an even better weekend.”
Seuss qualified fourth, but started eighth at South Boston after a redraw for the top positions on the grid. His car was good enough to work quickly through the pack though.
“The car was flawless. We finally got a good set-up for the slick and
worn-out tracks where you really have to save your tires. South Boston is a place where we struggled last year, but that is now far behind us.
“The car was just awesome that night. If I didn't wreck it, we were going to have a good finish. I can't thank the team enough for making it easy for me.”
One thing was missing from the South Boston race though. Seuss' family and all of his Northern-based crew, except for his spotter Scott McEachern, were at Thompson preparing for Sunday's race, so they didn't get to experience the victory at South Boston firsthand.
“I really missed my family and the rest of the team at South Boston,” said Seuss. “This was the first time when I have ever raced and my father wasn't there at the track. My Mom and my sister Shelly haven't been there for any of the three Southern races that I've won, so I'd really love for them to be there for one. They'll be going to Ace and Caraway next weekend, so while I don't want to be greedy, maybe we can win one of those races too."
On Sunday, Seuss started at the rear of the field per NASCAR rules after Sunoco Modified regular Tommy Cravenho practiced and qualified the #70 Modified. Seuss got caught in the pits under one of the race's caution periods and lost a lap. Once he was able to make up that ground, he started to work back through the field but only got back to the 17th position when the race ended.
“We didn't get to show what we really had at Thompson,” said Seuss. “I have to thank Tommy Cravenho for setting the car up and giving us a few pointers. We were just a few adjustments away from being great. We got stuck in the pits and went down a lap. After that, the car was good. But I really wanted to save it for when we got back on the lead lap. It took a couple of long runs to do that.
“We've got something to build on now. Next time, I'll be here for practice so we can dial it in a little more.”
Seuss will return to action with another doubleheader weekend this week. On Friday, April 10th, he will race at Ace Speedway (NC) and on Saturday, he'll race at Caraway Speedway (NC). Both events are part of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
Also coming up on Andy Seuss' schedule will be the Rockingham Boat Open House, scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd at Rockingham Boat on Route 111 in Hampstead, New Hampshire. Andy and members of the #70 team will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs. The #70 Modified will also be on hand for fans to see up close.
