Bowman Gray Stadium is a tough and physical track where bad things can happen in a hurry. Andy Seuss knows this all too well, as he finished a disappointing 14th in last year's NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at the track. As he looked back on his second-place result in the 2009 WSMT standings, the Bowman-Gray race was one place where he felt that the championship could have been lost, and a place where he needed to improve with his #47 Riggs Racing Q Racing Oil team this season.
Seuss and the #47 team did just that on Saturday night as Seuss not only survived the Bowman-Gray race, but finished fifth in it.
“That is a huge weight off our shoulders,” said Seuss. “It is tough to come here and race against guys who race here more often and it's a tricky place to get around. Last year, we had trouble and that set us back in the points. So this year, we're just happy to get through it.”
Seuss is already looking ahead to next year's event at Bowman Gray.
“Anytime you run well somewhere, but don't win, you start wanting to get back there and try it again. This time, the car was a little bit tight, but we know what we are going to do differently in the future to tighten it up and what to do next time we race here.”
