Andy Seuss and his #47 Riggs Racing team did all that they could do to win the 2010 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship in Thursday's season finale at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC). Seuss entered the race just three markers out of the point lead.
Seuss earned the pole position at Charlotte, but redrew 10th and started mid-pack during the race. He made his way through the pack and just needed to pass one more car on the racetrack to put himself into a position where he would win the title. Unfortunately for him, that was also when several cars ahead of him stacked up and Seuss got nudged into the wall as the field tried to avoid the mess in front of them.
“We had gotten up to battle for fifth place and several cars just stacked up in front of us,” said Seuss. “The car took a hard hit into the wall and that ended our night. [The championship] Just wasn't meant to be this year. We went to Charlotte and were fast. We won the pole and just didn't win. We tried our hardest and it didn't work out. You can't be upset about that.
“It was great working with Riggs Racing again this year. A few things that were out of our control hurt us, but we won a few races and challenged for the championship. We can hold our heads high and be proud of that.”
Seuss will next race in the Modified Racing Series season finale at his hometrack of Lee USA Speedway as part of Oktoberfest weekend on October 23rd-24th.
“We're looking forward to racing close to home and running at Lee,” said Seuss. “A lot of friends and family will be able to come to the races and Oktoberfest is a fun weekend to be at the track.”
