Everything was going Andy Seuss' way on Saturday, September 4th in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at Langley Speedway (VA). The Q Racing Oil/Glad Precision/MUA #47 for Riggs Racing was quick in practice, qualified third and quickly worked to the lead of the feature, but tire issues crept up just as quickly, dropping Andy out of the lead and to fifth at the fall of the checkered flag.
"On the restart after I got to the lead, the tire started shaking like crazy," said Seuss. "It's frustrating because we had the fastest car all day. It was a day where LW (Miller, one of the Seuss' fellow title contenders) was in the back, so we could've gained some points there."
Even though the day didn't end at Langley like it did in the prior event, when Andy went to victory lane at Caraway Speedway (NC), being able to nurse the car home in fifth kept Seuss in prime position for a run at the 2010 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Championship. He sits just eight points out of the point lead with two races remaining.
"I think we are wheere we need to be. Different teams make different strides at different times. Last year, we had the middle of the season and then (George) Brunnhoelzl turned it on at the end. I think we're just settling in and starting to get everything where we need it. I don't think anyone's been better than us over the last few races.
"The points are close enough that we don't wish bad luck on anybody's part, but we just hope that our luck is better than our competitors'."
Seuss and the Riggs Racing team have two more races on their schedule on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The penultimate event comes on September 25th at Tri-County Motor Speedway in North Carolina, with the final event taking place on October 14th at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC).
Before competing in those events, Seuss will compeete in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 18th.
The Langley 150 will air on VERSUS on Wednesday, September 8th at 7pm ET.
