Andy Seuss is the epitome of a family racer. Wherever and whenever he straps into a Modified racecar, his mother, father, sister, brother and more are almost always in attendance to cheer on the 22-year-old New Hampshire native. Family means a lot to Seuss, and that’s why when the opportunity to partner up with another family-oriented team, the Ideal Racing efforts owned by Howard Harvey and his son Eddie on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, Seuss could not pass it up.
Seuss has partnered with the Harveys to become the pilot of the #11 Ideal Racing machine on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour as a teammate to current Tour point leader George Brunnhoelzl III, part of another family with deep Modified racing roots. The new combination will partner for the remainder of the 2011 WSMT season, plus select NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events in the Northeast.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity,” said Seuss. “The Harveys, Howard and Eddie, are real serious about winning. They know what it takes. They’ve proven that already. That’s the most exciting thing; how competitive they are. Being able to work with such a family-oriented team is something I’m really looking forward to. Eddie and his father are close, my family comes with me and being involved with the whole Brunnhoelzl family as teammates, it’s a pretty neat deal altogether.”
“We are pretty excited and really pumped to have Andy Seuss driving for us at Ideal Racing." said Eddie Harvey. "We have had conversations in the past about getting this deal in line, and after about a year and a half, we finally have him in the driver's seat. I think with Andy and George we have the ingredients to take our team to the top of the Southern Modified ranks.”
Seuss owns eight career NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour victories and finished fourth in the standings in 2010. He partnered with the Fishel Racing team at the start of the 2011 season in the #44. After the Southern Tour’s most recent race at Caraway Speedway (NC), however, Seuss wanted to go in a different direction with his efforts as did the Harveys with their previous driver, so the partnership between driver and team worked out for both.
“I was excited about driving for the Fishels at the beginning part of the season and up until we decided to go in another direction," said Seuss. "Eddie Harvey and his driver did the same. I definitely want to thank the 44 team for the opportunity at the beginning of the year. I think we both benefitted from it, but it was time to do something else.”
In addition to running the remainder of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour events, Seuss and the Ideal Racing #11 team will be competing in several other open races and the Northeastern-based NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events at the Seuss family’s home track, New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“The opportunity will only take our Northern effort to the next level, as well,” added Seuss. “Whether it is with my car and the Ideal Racing guys helping out or their car coming up North, the Harveys love Northern Tour racing and they want to get involved up there.”
Seuss will also have a new teammate in 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Champion George Brunnhoelzl III. Brunnhoelzl is a third-generation Modified pilot who, along with Seuss, fits right in line with the family atmosphere at Ideal Racing.
“He’s probably the person I look forward to running door-to-door with the most,” said Seuss of Brunnhoelzl. “You can race hard, you can bump into each other, but it’s clean. I know how much they work on their cars, and they’re flawless cars. Their family has been in the Modified racing forever, but hopefully I can bring as much as far as being a teammate to him as he can to me. I’m really excited about being paired up with them.”
Ten events remain on the 2011 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour for Andy Seuss and the Ideal Racing team, with the next coming on Saturday, July 1st at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina. Seuss has three wins at Caraway in his career.
